CHANGING BEHAVIOR
Wellspring Adventure Camp’s focus is on changing the lifestyle of campers. While the rapid and dramatic weight loss that campers experience plays an important role here, it’s just the beginning, not the end of the story.

Wellspring Adventure Camp takes advantage of the weight loss experienced at camp through its clinical program. The clinical program is run by Masters- and Doctoral-level therapists (called Behavioral Coaches) who work one-on-one, and in groups, with each camper.
Campers see Behavioral Coaches at least 4x per week: twice for individual session, and twice for group session. What they do is called cognitive-behavioral therapy. CBT is the most effective methodology for changing the way campers think about diet and activity. It also solidifies the new weight-control training they are receiving, and improves frustration tolerance and stress management skills.

At the end of camp, campers have the skills they need to return home and successfully continue weight loss until they attain a normal weight range. Moreover, the weight loss they have achieved at camp has significantly bolstered their commitment to this new lifestyle.
